Supervisors billing for $400K while students in low-income neighbourhoods left without basic school supplies

OTTAWA – In response to reports that Conservative-appointed school supervisors are billing beyond their $350,000 salaries while school boards cut staff and students struggle to access basic resources and supplies, NDP Shadow Minister of Education MPP Chandra Pasma (Ottawa West – Nepean) released the following statement:

“While hundreds of teachers and education workers are being cut and students are being squeezed into overcrowded, under-resourced schools, the Minister’s handpicked supervisors are billing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. This is a staggering misuse of public funds.

“Families are being told there’s no money for smaller class sizes, for special education supports, or for ESL programs—yet there always seems to be more money for unelected insiders operating without transparency or accountability.

“Ford and Calandra are clearly prioritizing expensive vanity projects like a private spa in Toronto, rather than education in Ontario. Ontario’s students deserve investment in their futures, not a system where cuts in the classroom fund excessive salaries behind closed doors.”
