NDP MPPs continue push for Highway safety in the North

NORTH BAY - NDP MPPs Guy Bourgouin (Mushkegowuk–James Bay) and John Vanthof (Timiskaming–Cochrane) have released the following statement upon learning that the Premier will be in North Bay this morning for an announcement:

“We are happy to see the return of the Northlander, but it’s too bad he won’t come farther north to communities like Kapuskasing or Hearst,” said MPP Bourgouin. “We’re expecting another snowstorm this week, and if the Premier saw our highways with his own eyes, he’d understand why northerners are demanding safer roads as well.”

"Today's announcement is a step in the right direction, but for thousands of Northerners who drive on our highways, the Premier's lack of action on highway safety continues to stick out. The Premier should go farther on highway 11 to experience the parts of the highway on which drivers are statistically more likely to die than any other part of the province. He would be most welcome in Timiskaming Cochrane."
