LONDON – Ontario NDP MPPs Terence Kernaghan (London North Centre), Peggy Sattler (London West), and Teresa Armstrong (London–Fanshawe) issued the following joint statement in response to news that General Motors will end production of its BrightDrop electric delivery vans at the CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll:
“We stand with the multi-award winning 1,200 CAMI workers and their families who are now facing deep uncertainty after today’s devastating news,” said Kernaghan. “For decades, this CAMI plant has been a cornerstone of the Ingersoll and London regional economy, driving innovation, good jobs, and growth throughout southwestern Ontario. The awards and accolades awarded to them speak to their hard work, quality, and dedication.”
“These workers did everything that was asked of them. They retooled, adapted, and embraced the shift toward clean vehicle manufacturing,” said Sattler. “The Ford government promised that Ontario would lead the future of EV production, yet once again, we’re seeing jobs vanish and communities left behind.”
“The government must act immediately. It’s their duty to work with GM, Unifor, and the federal government to secure a new product mandate for the CAMI plant,” said Armstrong. “This region has the talent, skill, and industrial capacity to keep building the vehicles of the future right here in Ontario. Auto workers built this province. They deserve better than more broken promises and more lost jobs.”
We're so happy to have you on the team. We'll be in touch soon.
